Family Friendly Alternatives to fireworks this Bonfire night

Bonfire night is such a great time of year for many but finding ways to celebrate with those that find it all a bit overwhelming can be challenging. We have a dog and a cat, so I have always wanted our home to be a safe place for our pets on Fireworks night, which means no fireworks for us.

We have thought about going to organised firework displays, but our children are still fairly young and actually, I think the noise would be pretty terrifying for our son in particular. This has led to us needing to come up with some more creative ways to celebrate Bonfire night. I have put together a list below of some ways to make Bonfire night fun without the fireworks.

8 Firework free ways to celebrate Bonfire night

  1. Sparklers

Sparklers seem to be the next best thing to fireworks and are great fun for children. Please do always supervise your children fully around Sparklers.

  1. Light a bonfire

This one seems a bit obvious as it is actually bonfire night, but I had to put it in. If you have a safe space in your garden, lighting a bonfire is a great way to celebrate. If you don’t have a space you can use things like a fire pit of chimenea to sit around and roast your marshmallows on.

  1. Make a scarecrow

If you have any old clothes, shoes and pillows you could have great fun as a family making a scarecrow to decorate your house or garden for Bonfire night.

  1. Make some bonfire themed treats

I think the food is always the most important part of any celebration! You can click here to see some great Bonfire night themed treats that you can make with your children.

  1. Glow sticks

Glow sticks are a great, safe alternative to fireworks, plus you can use them for other things too (they are great for bath times).

  1. LED light show with projector

If it’s the light show you are after, then you can get yourself a LED projector light. My children love these projectors, so these could be a good investment for future parties or even bed times if they come with a night themed setting

  1. Pinata

It’s not a real party for me if there isn’t a Pinata! My children really love them too, they are a great way to make an event a bit more special and you can fill it with any kind of treat you like.

  1. Confetti Canon

Now I will admit, I am not brave enough to set off a confetti canon in my house (purely because of the tidy up operation after), but this would be so much fun for children.

So, it doesn’t matter if you are trying to save the planet, be mindful of animals or you are just worried that you will set fire to your shed, there are plenty of ways that you can celebrate Bonfire night this year, without the fireworks. Have fun!
