  • Over 1.5m Brits said they plan to spend LESS on Father’s Day this year than last

  • Top Father’s Day gifts this year will be chocolate, mugs and pyjamas

  • More than a quarter (28%) of people said they would cut back on gifts for other people due to the rising consumer prices

As Father’s Day swiftly approaches, Hodge reveals that shoppers are due to spend nearly £800 million (£799 million)1 on gifts.

However, due to the increases in living costs, there's been a shift in spending patterns, as many Brits adapt their budgets in response to escalating consumer prices.

Global Web Index studies reveals that this year, 1.55 million Brits will be spending less on Father’s Day gifts. This highlights the varying impacts of the economic climate on different demographics.

However, 28% of Brits admitted they would reduce their gift expenditure for others to cope with the costs of living.

Are Dad’s truly the hardest to buy for?

Despite Father’s Day being a yearly occurrence, consumers still panic, as 17,000 people confessed to being unsure about what to buy their dads this year.2

However, according to search data, the most popular Father’s Day gifts this year will be chocolate, mugs, and pyjamas.3

However, searches for gift inspiration and restaurant bookings start as early as February 25th, indicating that many want to be organised but perhaps still leave it to the last minute.4

What fathers really think of the celebrations, from Hodge employees

1. What do you usually receive for Father’s Day?

Dave Landen: “I usually receive some best dad presents or something for my BBQ or tennis gear and a Toblerone bar! I think my wife normally arranges as my 15 and 12 year old boys aren’t the most organised!”

Adrian Mathias: “Boxer shorts, socks, cheap t-shirt or maybe beer.”

Rhos Evans: “An early wake up and usually a t-shirt from my endless list of clothes which I flag to buy but never get round to purchasing.”

2. What does the day mean to you?

Dave Landen: “It’s a day about more than gifts, it’s a chance to spend quality time with my boys, perhaps going out for some food or just taking the dog for a walk.”

Adrian Mathias: “Normal day. No celebration expected from me. Would rather see a celebrated Mother’s Day.”

Rhos Evans: “Celebrating being a father to my two sons and a husband to my wife. Also, having grown up in an era where Father’s Day wasn’t a thing, it’s nice to see it feature in the calendar and recognise the influence of fathers in society.”
