How to Create a Fun Easter Basket for Toddlers 🐰🥚
Easter baskets for toddlers are all about cute, safe, and sensory fun and they are really popular at the moment! Here at The Parenting Daily we have put together a great guide on how you can create a toddler-friendly Easter basket that’s full of excitement (without all the sugar overload).
🐣 Toddler Easter Basket Essentials:
- A soft, fabric basket or a small plastic one with easy-to-hold handles. If this is your first time making an Easter basket, try and find a good quality basket that you can use for years to come. My children get really excited on the run up to holidays when they know they will get to use something they relate to fun memories from previous events. This also saves money in the future and reduces waste.
- Fill it with shredded paper grass (or crinkle-cut paper) in pastel colors for that classic Easter vibe. If you’re not a fan of shredded paper (lets face it, that stuff really does get everywhere!) you can use a blanket or pastel coloured scarf.
🎁 Toddler-Safe Goodies you can put in your basket:
- Board books with an Easter theme (e.g., That’s Not My Bunny was always a hit in our house along with We’re going on an Egg Hunt).
- A cuddly bunny or chick—soft and huggable!
- Chunky crayons or washable markers for creative play.
- Bubbles – Always a toddler hit and great for outdoor play.
- Stickers – Easter-themed ones with bunnies, eggs, and flowers.
-
A set of plastic eggs filled with:
- Toddler-safe snacks (raisins, Cheerios, or mini rice cakes).
- Little toys like finger puppets or animal figurines.
We found some great plastic Easter Eggs at Hobby Craft a few years ago, which I use each year for our Easter hunts.
🐰 Non-Sweet Treats:
- A spring-themed drinks cup, water bottle or plate and cutlery set.
- Play-Doh in pastel colors. You can even make your own playdough so you can play about with different colours and scents.
- Bath toys – Ducks, frogs, or anything fun for water play.
🍬 A Little Sweet Treat:
- One or two toddler-safe chocolate bunnies or yogurt-covered raisins (if you’re including sweets).
- You could try making some Easter treats together which you can include in an Easter Egg hunt or serve at an Easter Party. Some of our Easy go to Easter treat recipes to make together are Easter Bunnuy Merringues and Easter Egg cakes. If you are making any of these treats just make sure to leave out the Mini Eggs as they can be a choking risk to toddlers. You can swap them out for chocolate buttons, Easter themed little chocolates or pastel coloured sprinkles.
💡 Fun Extra Idea:
- Add a DIY Easter activity – like pre-cut bunny shapes and glue sticks for a simple craft.
Tip: Keep it simple and sensory-focused! Toddlers will be more excited about playing with the basket and crinkle paper than the treats themselves. 😉
