Newborn babies are precious, their skin is delicate, and their hair is soft. Despite this, new parents can continue to live their lives. You might not want to jump back into your social calendar, but you can still take your child outside.

Going outside doesn’t have to be a military mission. Once you’ve prepared your newborn essentials, such as a changing bag and baby carrier, you can take your baby on a number of adventures. It’s always nice to take a breath of fresh air, after all.

To help new parents take the first step, Nuby UK, a leading baby brand, has taken a look at five outdoor activities for new parents.

Stroll around the park

First and foremost, you can take a calming stroll around your local park. This is one of the simplest outdoor activities to do with your newborn. As long as your house is close to your destination, you don’t need to pack a whole day’s worth of newborn supplies.

It’s no secret that going for a walk in a pram, as well as a quick car ride, can help your baby fall asleep. Any parent or guardian will tell you! So if you’re struggling to get your newborn to sleep, give this a go and thank us later.

There is also research that walking can help boost maintain our mental health. On average, health experts advise at least 40 minutes of walking every day. But feel free to take your time and walk at your own pace, especially if you’ve recently given birth.

Picnic on the grass

Once you’re at the park, you might be tempted to sit and spend a moment surrounded by nature. This is the perfect opportunity to have a family picnic, take a breather and spend time relaxing with your newborn.

To make the most of your visit, you can turn this into a tummy time exercise. The good news is you can start tummy time as soon as they’re born, as long as it’s in short intervals. Just make sure you’re putting a comfortable surface on the ground beforehand!

Go to a sensory café

On the days when you’re lacking the energy to walk around the park, you can visit your local café and enjoy your favourite caffeinated beverage. Once your baby is old enough to drink dairy or alternative milk, they can enjoy a delicious (and caffeine-free) babyccino.

There are certain cafes designed with your baby in mind. Sensory cafes, for example, are filled with captivating lights and soft play areas. The bright surroundings can keep them entertained for hours, whether they’re a few weeks or years old.

Travel to the seaside

What could be better than a trip to the seaside? Relaxing on the beach with an ice cream sounds like anybody’s dream, so don’t let having a baby stop you. The only things to keep in mind are how long it takes you to travel, how long you want to stay, and sun protection.

It’s important to properly protect your newborn baby from sun damage. Their skin is soft and supple, so make sure you keep them out of direct sunlight rather than using sun cream for the first six months. A good baby carrier and an umbrella should do the trick.

Visit your family and friends

Last and certainly not least, you can take your newborn baby to visit your loved ones. Your friends and family will be eager to see your little one and catch up, so why not give them a quick message and see what they’re up to this afternoon?

There are no rules to being a new parent. If you’re ready to go outside, these are some of the activities to ease you back into your social calendar with a newborn. On the other hand, you might not be ready to go outside just yet, which is perfectly fine. Live life at your own pace, and everything else will fall into place.
