Spikey, the perfect Children's book for animal lovers
As a ten-year-old who loves hedgehogs, this book is perfect for me. I love reading at night as it calms me down and gets me ready for my sleep. I have been looking for a book to read for a long time so when I got these books delivered from the author herself, I was buzzing.
What is the story about?
This story is about a hedgehog called Spikey who ventures out of his home and into the wild. With a childhood of being bullied because of his shorter leg, he had to go out on his own and after the other hedgehogs. Spikey gets to make some friends along the way, which really brings the storyline together.
One feature that can bring in all ages of readers is the questions at the bottom of each page. On the left page, there are some questions for the younger readers like “who is Spikey” or “how far did Spikey go” But on the right page, there are more questions like “how do you think Spikey was feeling”.
Friends along the way
Spikey is a loving character who can make friends with anyone. Whether it's somebody who will try to eat him or someone that other hedgehogs would eat. His first friend is a ladybird who can't get home so Spikey has to help her. She isn't sure at first but trusts Spikey and they become friends. She doesn't have a name so Spikey names her Stripey and that is what she is known as. Spikeys other friend is a fox named white tip that attempts to eat him. Spikey then saves the fox from a hound though and the fox becomes friends with Spikey.
Ending
The end includes Stripey getting back home in time for her tea with the help of white tip and stripey. Spikey and Stripey decided to play tomorrow and have even more fun. White tip says that he as a fox must wonder around the park. He also says that if they need him to say his name as they are the only ones who know it.
Final thoughts
I would highly recommend this book to hedgehog lovers and people who like adventure books. If you are reading this to your child or children, I would recommend 4+ but if your child is reading the book there self 7+.
