Hosting a children’s party at home
The first time you do it, hosting a children’s party can be daunting. However, with careful preparation, you can create an experience that won’t be forgotten quickly!
Discuss the party details
Interests and passions can change at the drop of a hat when you’re young: one day you want to be a dancer, the next a magician. It’s therefore a bad idea to assume you know what your child wants for the party without asking them!
Within any limits you might have such as cost or dates, discuss the details with your children. Confirm the guest list and ask about the theme, giving suggestions such as animals or their favourite film or book. Big franchises like Harry Potter and Disney are bound to be popular!
Plan the activities
When you have the foundations in place, plan the activities to ensure hours of family-friendly fun. Be practical and make it as easy as possible to organise each one, considering the age range and ability of the guests.
Utilise outdoor space if possible so there’s plenty of room for everyone to play. The fresh air should help to tire out excited children too! You could hire a bouncy castle, put out a trampoline and slide or organise a treasure hunt with prizes. Prepare for bad weather with a range of active indoor games such as freeze dancing and Simon Says.
Add creative details
For significant ages or larger parties, take the occasion to the next level with creative details. Start by investing in quality card-making supplies and crafting unique invitations for the guests. You could also make themed goody bags filled with little treats like sweets and small toys. This is a fun project you and your little one can do together which is guaranteed to promote party excitement!
You can also experiment with baking together to create a showstopping birthday cake for the event. You’ll find plenty of birthday cake recipes that are easy to make but still have that wow factor and are guaranteed to have a tastebud-tickling flavour combination!
Document the day
Don’t let your efforts go to waste: make sure you’re ready to document the day with cameras at the ready! Take a mixture of candid pictures and orchestrated shots to capture the joy of the day and give your photo album variety. It’s important to snap special childhood moments to help preserve times that they can treasure for years to come.
Feeling fancy? Create a dedicated photo area with fun props and hire a professional photographer to compose the shots. The kids will love getting dressed up! You could also use a Polaroid camera to capture photographs and send the guests home with some physical pictures to display in their rooms or stick in their scrapbooks.
