HSBC Volunteers Join Forces with Manor Green Primary Academy to Transform School Grounds

In a remarkable display of community spirit and teamwork, 35 volunteers from HSBC recently partnered with staff members from Manor Green Primary Academy and Focus-Trust to undertake a significant transformation of the school’s facilities and outdoor areas.

The collaborative effort focused on several key areas, resulting in a refreshed learning environment:

Library Revamp

Volunteers fixed broken shelves and organised the books, making the library more accessible and user-friendly for the children.

Enhanced Outdoor Learning

A variety of new raised beds were created, a small pond was installed, and grassed areas were dug out, providing Higher Level Teaching Assistant Mrs Wren with ample space for children to engage in planting and growing activities during their outdoor learning sessions.

KS1 Area Improvements

The team weeded and planted around the KS1 classrooms, in addition to painting the metal tables and chairs, enhancing the outdoor spaces where young children learn and play.

Reception Garden

Herbs and strawberries were planted in the reception area, creating a sensory garden that will delight and educate the youngest pupils.

Buddy Benches

In response to a request from the school council, the volunteers built and painted two buddy benches in colours chosen by the council. These benches, placed in the KS1 and KS2 areas, provide a supportive space for children who may feel upset or lonely.

Commenting on the improvements, Victoria Saville, Principal at Manor Green Primary Academy said: “We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers from HSBC for their hard work and dedication in transforming our school grounds.

“The enhancements to our library, outdoor learning spaces, and garden areas will have a lasting positive impact on our pupil’s learning experiences.”

Manor Green Primary School forms part of the Focus-Trust, a primary schools trust which is based in the Northwest of England and West Yorkshire with a vision of providing great schools at the heart of communities where children thrive, achieve, and succeed.
