Which? response as staycation firms see ‘huge demand’ for planned April 12 reopening

Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, said:

“It’s fantastic that UK breaks can soon get under way, but holidaymakers should prepare themselves for higher prices this year because of increased demand, with our snapshot research finding that accommodation prices in popular seaside destinations have increased by a third compared with last summer. But we also found plenty of availability outside the likes of Devon and Cornwall and prices that will be several hundred pounds cheaper over a seven night stay as well. If you are flexible on dates or destination, there is no need to panic book.

“Anyone booking should look carefully at the flexibility policy offered by the accommodation provider to make sure you will get a cash refund if the holiday is unable to go ahead as planned due to further lockdowns, or test and trace telling you to self-isolate for example. There remains a risk of disruption to UK trips and we urge companies to play fair when it comes to flexible bookings and refunds.”
